Mix up the action

How you work your lure is just as important as the lure itself.

The bait manufacturers today do an outstanding job of color replication on both hard baits and soft plastic baits. But color alone does not entice a bass to bite. Movement of your bait can be key when trying to get a bass to strike your lure. Depending on your bait, it can take quite some time to learn how to present a bait that will make the strike instinctive for a bass.
When I first started bass fishing, I had no idea what I was doing. I was retrieving my worms way too fast. Back in those days, I never threw a crankbait. Until recently, I could not get a feel for the bait, so I just didn’t throw it. My spinnerbaits were retrieved at the wrong pace for the size and style of the bait that I was throwing. Notice that most of the things that I was doing were being done too fast.
