The 9th Annual Captain John Breuggeman Memorial Grouper Tournament was held Jan. 20 out of Cape Haze Marina. A total of 28 boats were entered, and winners were decided by the combined weight of three fish. Cash prizes went to first, second and third place, with a trophy awarded for the biggest legal grouper. Connie Breuggeman, a retired teacher from Englewood, runs the tournament in memory of her husband and uses it to raise scholarship money for Lemon Bay High School students. Last year, the proceeds of the tournament were used to pay for three scholarships through the John and Caroline Breuggeman Scholarship Fund. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who came out to support a great cause.
