The lost art of
trolling the Harbor

Trolling is a fine way to catch most gamefish in Southwest Florida.

Trolling is an effective way to catch fish that is slowly dying on the vine. I don’t know if it’s because it can be boring, or if people are just becoming numb to it. Maybe it’s not cool because you aren’t running 50 mph in a few inches of water in an expensive flats boat. While trolling offshore is popular, trolling in the Harbor and the rivers isn’t so much.
Now, I do have to admit that I used to hate trolling. I’m trolled out. I spent the better part of my youth trolling Lake Erie for walleyes that basically swam with the lure until they were pretty much dead and fishing Lake Ontario for salmon — which are a blast to catch, if you catch them. So when I first got down here, the last thing I want to do was troll. That may also be the case with many people also.
