By Capt. Josh Greer
Hello everybody, my name is Capt. Josh Greer. Some of you may already know me, but for those who don’t, I’ll give you a brief rundown and then we’ll move into this week’s topic. I own and operate XXL Sportfishing Charters, a full-time charter fishing business. Being a fourth-generation Florida native, there are not many fish in Florida that I haven’t caught or fished for. I look forward to sharing some of my knowledge and expertise with you to help make you a better angler.
Let’s go offshore. Oh, wait — grouper season is closed. Now what? Don’t worry: Contrary to popular belief, there are still plenty of fish to be caught in the Gulf of Mexico. This time of year, there is great fishing off Southwest Florida’s coast. No, you can’t keep gag grouper, but you can keep red and black grouper, as well as snapper, grunts, flounder, kingfish and Spanish mackerel. This week I’m going to focus on snapper, which are among my favorite fish to catch — and one of my favorites to eat.
