Four members of the Venice High weightlifting team — seniors Emma Hand and Amanda Kempf, junior Shana Sandborn and sophomore Beau Doyle — will compete for state titles in their weight classes at Saturday’s FHSAA Finals at Silver Spur Arena in Kissimmee.
Hand’s 270-pound lift at January’s regional meet was seventh-most among those who qualified in the 119-pound division. Sunlake’s Alexandra Ruiz is the favorite at 119 after lifting 320 pounds, including a 175-pound bench press, at her regional meet.
