Wesley John Schumacher, 71, of Nokomis, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, after a long illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1941.

He is survived by his brother, George (Karl), and sister-in-law, Terry (Holliday) Schumacher, of Wheaton, Ill.; and his nephew, David, and Megan (Gliwa) Schumacher of Villa Park, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Gertrude (Goennel) Schumacher, and a nephew, Darren Schumacher.

Mr. Schumacher was the artist director and conductor of the Venice Symphony for 20 years, taking the orchestra from a fledgling group of musicians to a professional orchestra, requiring three performances of each concert. In addition, he was a minister of music and program director at Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church in Nokomis, Fla.

Services: A Funeral Service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. at Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church, in Nokomis, Fla. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, Fla.

Anyone who has previously sung with Wes, either in a church or community choir, is invited to sing for his Memorial Service. Rehearsal will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5. Attire is white shirt, black pants or skirt.
