Sonya Bryde Craig, 48, of Venice, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.
Born Sonya Kay Blankenship in Detroit, Mich., on Mar. 3, 1964, she was the daughter of Cal and Shirley (Webb) Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sonya moved to Venice in 1984 and the following year began a long career at Venice Hospital, initially as a unit clerk in Critical Care, then as a rehab tech in Cardiac Rehab and later as a visiting home health aide. After being away from Critical Care for quite a few years Sonya had only recently returned to work there as a PCA tech. She was thrilled to be back and said it was like going home after all those years.
Throughout her life she truly enjoyed caring for others and was dedicated to her patients, clients, family and friends. Sonya was also the devoted and proud mom of her canine “boys,” Dylan and Cody, whom she adored.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband of many years, Chris; his daughter, Tiffany Lindner (Philip); granddaughter Zoey Bryde and grandson Brayden Lindner, all of Venice. Also surviving are her sister, Christine Ciempola (Joe); nephews Brian Green, Justin, Stanley (Joe) and Christian Ciempola of Anderson, S.C.; her coworker and good friend Ranee Knoke of Venice; and her lifelong best friend forever, Paula Howard of Madisonville, Tenn. In her home state of Michigan, Sonya is survived by her aunts Peggy McCartney (Bob) and Aunt Bonnie Webb; cousin Jessica of Livonia, Mich.; and many other family members.
Services: A memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at the Reformed Community Church, 1600 Banyan Drive (at Center Road), Venice. In accordance with Sonya’s wishes, inurnment and placement in Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood has already occurred.
