Mabel L. Sargent, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, Maine. She was a resident of Portsmouth and for the past 22 years she wintered in Venice.

She was born in Kittery Point, Maine, June 9, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Johnson) Amee and was a graduate of Traip Academy in 1940.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an operator for New England Telephone for 27 years.

Mabel was a member of North Congregational Church of Portsmouth and Telephone Pioneers. She was an avid gardener and loved to work in her yard.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis L. Sargent; sister, Helen White; and brother, Leon Amee.

Survivors include her grandson, Robert M. Sargent Jr. of Portsmouth; great-granddaughter, Adelyn Sargent of Rye; and nephew, Stephen Amee of Venice.

Services: Memorial visitation was held Friday, Nov. 2, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the North Congregational Church Memorial Chapel, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth. Friends are invited.
