It’s often said government should be run like business. While there are many similarities between government and business, there are a few differences as well.
Like a large business with a large budget, the city of Venice has a board of directors (city council) that creates policy. Like a large business, these directors are elected by the shareholders (residents of the city). And, like a business, the board of directors selects a chief executive officer (city manager) to administer its policy and oversee the daily operations of the business.
