Golden goose. When I read of the city’s intentions on the sale of reuse water, I immediately thought of smoke and mirrors. I remember when we used water that was stored over at the Jacaranda golf course. At that time it was offered to Jacaranda for free if it would and could use it on the course. Ultimately, there was a very minimal fee for a portion of the use. Now you get the picture. It got developments off the wells/pond irrigation program, slowly running it to everyone as the traffic would bear. The city was looking at the golden goose. Same system, no extra cost. I resent the deception put upon us. Golf courses will be forced to go back to wells, as they were. The Southwest Florida Water Management District will object and scream water shortage. However, they will let thousands of new housing units be approved before rationing takes place.

Time for reward. I saw where the Venice High School Athletic Department was fined approximately $20,000 for certain violations, as determined by the Florida High School Athletic Association. Involved were football, baseball and volleyball, mainly. These same teams have been rewarded by playing football in Virginia, baseball in North Carolina, volleyball in Illinois — who knows what else they’ve got planned. I’d like to recommend that two of the sports that never seem to cause any grief — one is golf and the other is tennis — deserve a trip to Pebble Beach, Calif., and Wimbledon, London, England, respectively. Only in Venice.
