Change needed. The Republican Party just issued a 100-page report indicating we should have fewer presidential debates, a shorter primary season and a convention earlier in the year. It also said they should campaign to persuade voters that Republicans are not narrow-minded and out-of-touch. As a Barry Goldwater Republican, I have trouble with the fact that the leadership doesn’t want to change its attitude to women, gays and minorities. If we don’t, we’re going to stay losers for a long time.

Getting stuck. I’m calling about the latest folly regarding the Circus Arena. Kudos to Jeanette Gates, who is a contractor, for questioning whether a partial demolition would have it meet code. I’m no engineer, but it makes sense that if you take away all of the skin of the building and leave basically a house of sticks, what are we going to have when it comes to be hurricane season? We’re going to have a house of sticks, that’s going to topple. I don’t understand why in the world the city didn’t listen to Jeanette Gates. I hope there is an engineer involved in this because the city could certainly be liable if this thing collapses. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize you’re going to weaken the building.
