County Commission to discuss vendor preferences

SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County Commission will consider today proposed revisions to the local vendor preference section of the county’s updated Procurement Code that is expected to be adopted by the end of the year.
The local preference ordinance was the only proposed change to the county’s Procurement Code that was not adopted by the commission in September. The code governs how vendors bid on projects and services for the county. Commissioners took issue with definitions of residency and the ability of companies from outside the area to use local subcontractors to qualify for a project bid. They asked staff to get input from local trade organizations, which the county did when it hosted a vendor preference workshop last month with more than 50 vendors in attendance.
