Margaret E. Minott

Margaret E. Minott, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at her home in Port Charlotte.

She was born April 30, 1922, to George and Cornelia Boyd Carroll in Black Ridge, Va., and moved to Port Charlotte 24 years ago from Mount Vernon, N.Y.

Margaret was baptized in her younger years at Good Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Sandy Grigg. Margaret received her early education in Mecklenburg and Brunswick County, Va. Subsequently, she graduated from Virginia State University with a bachelor’s degree in science. Margaret was inducted into the Delta Sigma Theta sorority April 27, 1946. After graduation, she moved to New York where she worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation at the office of the Secretary. After 30 years of service, she retired in 1980. Margaret was an inspirational woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be missed greatly by all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Sydney C. Minott; two step-sons, Lawrence and Andrew Minott; one step-daughter, Judith Minott; a sister, Flossie C. Drummond; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her loving brothers and sisters, Mary, Luscious, Pete, Lawrence, Sadie, James, Selena, Lucille and Cornelia.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Father Cesar Olivero will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Port Charlotte, Florida. Friends may visit www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.
