My kids are about to graduate high school this month, and I find myself feeling such a whirlwind of emotions! If you are (or have ever been) the parent of a high school senior, you know exactly what I’m talking about. One moment, I am so excited about the graduation ceremony and watching them walk across the stage, and celebrating this milestone in their lives. In the next moment, I am anxious about them leaving the nest and battling the challenges of this world.
You might think that I am referring to my own flesh and blood, but I’m not. What surprises me more than anything is that I am feeling these emotions for the students I have served over the last four years at Edison Collegiate High School as their school counselor. The class of 2013 is made up of some wonderful, remarkable, impressive, academically minded students, and I (and the faculty here) are proud to have them represent the very first graduating class of seniors at ECHS, whose commencement is set for May 17.
