Mass brings new fans to jazz

Members of the Ingroov Big Band played as a quartet at an all-new jazz Mass at Hope Lutheran Church March 10. Players include John Johnson on bass, David Mims on piano, Fred Capitelli on sax and Chris Farnum on drums. The church was filled to near capacity and brought crossover interest to the group.

GULF COVE — When Hope Lutheran Church regular Muriel Kowalsky attended the jazz Mass March 10, she noticed something unusual.

“There were so many unfamiliar faces,” Kowalsky said. “People came from all over. The crowd was so engrossed in it and enjoyed it so much. It was so unique. It’s not something that I’ve seen before.”
