Daphne M. Gowe
Daphne M. Gowe, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Royal Oak, Mich., after spending some time in Beaumont Hospital.
Daphne was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, June 8, 1929, to Josephine (nee Jackson) and David Black.
She immigrated to New York City, N.Y., becoming a U.S. citizen, and eventually moved to Port Charlotte in 1992. A Catholic, she was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Daphne was the dearest mother to Delores Hill, and the beloved wife of Leonard M. Gowe.
She is survived by her adopted daughter, Delores; sister, Doris Prendergast; brother, William Black; loving nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. Daphne was preceded in death by Leonard in August 1993; and her parents.
The viewing for Daphne will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Committal and burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte. Friends may visit www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family.
