John J. Peterson
John J. Peterson, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.
He was born May 4, 1932, in Woburn, Mass., and moved to this area 10 years ago from Woburn.
Mr. Peterson was the owner of Peterson Cabinet Company, “The Shop” in Woburn, and was well-known for his kitchens and church work. He was also the owner of Peterson’s Farm in Northwood, N.H. Mr. Peterson was a lifetime member of the Elks in Massachusetts; a member of Massachusetts Rifle Association; a member of New England Woodcarvers; a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; and he volunteered at the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center in Punta Gorda, Fla. John was also a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Mr. Peterson was a devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary; daughters, Jo-Ann (Mike) Mims, MaryAnn Allen, Donna (Stephen) Adgate, Lori (Charlie) Black, Linda (Tom) MacLeod and Diane (Bill) Courtney; son, John J. Peterson Jr.; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents, John and Catherine Peterson; brother, Joseph; sister, Rita; and daughter, Kathleen.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Woburn. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
Arrangements were made in Port Charlotte.
