Gilbert George “Gill” Pokora, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s.

Gill was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of George and Anna (nee Bratkowski) Pokora.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the European Theatre during World War II. Gill met the love of his life, Jean Bartow, and they were married in 1944. His love of teaching lead him to a long career teaching in Racine schools. Gill and Jean retired in 1984, moving to Port Charlotte, where he enjoyed living on the lake, and watching all the different species of birds. He loved to travel, take cruises, and as a avid fisherman was most happy when he could throw out a line.

Gill leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jean; son, Gregory; daughter-in-law, Gail; sister, Arlene (Richard) Lesniewski; and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doloras (Ralph) Wroblewski; brother-in-law, Joe Bartow; and sisters-in-law, Katheryn Wallace and Phyllis Finne.

No services are planned at this time. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.Ltaylorfuneral.com and sign the online guestbook.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
