No one says the building industry is back like gangbusters, but some are optimistic about 2013 with the West Charlotte, South Sarasota and Englewood areas emerging as leaders in much of the new housing activity in our region.

Charlotte County is issuing three to four times more housing permits than it did in the years following the collapse of the housing market, and major remodeling projects are also up, building officials say.
