By taking a hard look at its staffing, the Polk County School Board has managed to pare some $2.2 from what was a looming $18 million deficit, caused in part by state mandated teachers raises.

As of Tuesday’s board meeting, the board had come up with $200,000 in savings from the deputy and associate superintendents offices, $1 million in facilities and operations, $265,400 in learning support, eliminating two positions from the communications department at a savings of $165,000 and another half a million in support services.
