Evelyn E. Simpson

Evelyn E. Simpson, 95, of Chelsea, Mich., and formerly of North Port, Fla., and Flanders, N.J., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

She was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Newark, N.J., to Charles and Sophie O’Connor.

In March 1941, Evelyn married her loving husband Donald, and together they raised their daughter, Donna Lynn. She had many interests, including beading, crafts, line dancing, and breeding and showing standard poodles. Before moving to Michigan last year, Evelyn belonged to the North Port Yacht Club, the North Port Senior Center, and Reformed Community Church of Venice, Fla., where she had many friends to keep her busy.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Donna (David) Piper of Dexter, Mich.; granddaughter, Kari (Chris) Bilakos of Dexter; grandson, Kyle (Tracey) DellaVecchia of Hamilton, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Alana Bilakos, and Andrew and Mariana DellaVecchia; and special niece and nephew, Barbara Ann Schlerf and Donald Miles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Simpson; and grandson, Darren DellaVecchia.

The family will gather with friends from 11 a.m. until the time of her simple farewell at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society.
