NORTH PORT — When 378-pound North Port police officer Lenny Hills responded to a call this past April, he found himself in a humiliating — and ultimately life-changing — situation.
“The lady who called us is named Betty,” he said. “When she opened her door she said, ‘You look like 50 pounds of chewed-up bubble gum stuck in a 25-pound bag.’ This happened in front of a couple of my fellow officers and firefighters. Being called out like that in front of your peers was embarrassing.”
