NORTH PORT — A benefit yard sale for a scholarship fund in memory of Michael Walton-Rabbitt will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 4397 Oakley Road, off North Toledo Blade Boulevard, North Port.
Walton-Rabbitt, a 25-year-old State College of Florida graphic design student, died in April 2012 following a head-on collision when a drunk driver hit his car on North River Road. His mother, Jane Walton, has organized the yard sale on Sept. 29, what would have been her son’s 27th birthday. The SCF scholarship is open to any North Port student, regardless of major. Applicants must, however, have a 3.0 GPA, because Michael was an honor student, his mother said. Items for sale include electronics, TVs, bicycles and children’s clothing. All proceeds will go directly toward the scholarship fund. For those who can’t attend the sale, donation checks can be made payable to the SCF Foundation with “Michael Walton-Rabbitt” in the memo line. Mail them to: P.O. Box 381029, Murdock, FL 33938; the checks will be delivered to the SCF Foundation following the yard sale. Checks also can be mailed directly to the State College of Florida Foundation, P.O. Box 1849, Bradenton, FL 34206.
