County seeks public input

SARASOTA COUNTY — As Sarasota and Manatee county officials continue their talks about a possible merger between their two transit systems, the public is being given an opportunity to weigh in on what could make traveling between the two counties easier.

The Sarasota and Manatee county commissions agreed in a joint meeting in April to begin looking into a consolidation of the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) systems. Officials say a consolidation between the bus systems — which would be run by a private operator but would maintain their ownerships by both counties — could prove to be a money-saver for the community.
