Sister City board mulls dissolving
NORTH PORT — The 2-year-old Sister City Advisory Committee may be heading toward a recommendation to the City Commission that it be dissolved in order to become a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization.
After the committee meeting in September, members started to consider whether to continue as a city advisory board or to become a 501(c)(3) organization. The designation by the International Revenue Service is for charitable organizations that are not operated for the benefit of private interests. They also are limited in how much political and lobbying activities they can conduct.
