Mrs. Virginia B. Cain of Lake Wales, Fla., and Windham, Maine (last 3 years) passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, after a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1917, in Altoona, Pa., one of six children. She left Altoona in 1939 to assume a secretarial position in the office of the late President Harry S Truman, where she worked for seven years. Virginia moved to Lake Wales with her husband, Earl Maxwell Cain, and infant daughter, Kathy, in 1947. Her love for music was evidenced throughout her life, serving as the organist of the Lake Wales Lutheran Church for 50 years.

In Lake Wales, Virginia was employed as a secretary for 10 years at the Mountain Lake Corporation, for 16 years at the Alcoma Packing Company, and for 12 years at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales.

She and her husband each had 1,000 hours of volunteer work at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

Virginia’s daughter, Kathy Cain Hajdaj, passed away in 2002, and Virginia’s husband of 61 years, Max Cain, passed away in 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Cain Mirone, and Linda’s husband, Dominic, of Windham, Maine; her two grandsons, Blair Williamson and Ryan Hajdaj of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four granddaughters, Kelly Ayer (husband Loren), Jennifer Carter (husband Clark), and Melissa Webber (husband Robert) of Portland, Maine, and Leah Richards (husband Graig) of Lehi, Utah.

She is survived by seven precious great-grandchildren: Julia Ayer, 9; Amy Ayer, 8, Ella Webber, 7, George Ayer, 6, Stephen Richards, 3, Samuel Carter, 2, and Carmella Richards, 21 months.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the Lake Wales Lutheran Church with Dr. John Glamann officiating.

Interment will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Friends and family are invited to the Three Oaks Bed and Breakfast in Lake Wales after the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Honeywell Road Scarborough, Maine 04074

Marion Nelson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I am so sorry to learn of Virginia's passing. She was a wonderful organist and person, I enjoyed her music for many years at the Lutheran Church here in Lake Wales. My sincerest sympathy to all of her family.
