Cool cats performing diverse music with a side order of Oscar Wilde. After nearly packing the house of the newly renovated Polk State Lake Wales Arts Center last month, Polk State cellist Derek Menchan hopes the third installment in the Polk State “Voices of the People” performing arts chamber music series will be another recipe for success. Menchan, humanities and music professor, will be joined by internationally known pianist Byron Sean in a performance of “Cellistic Wisdom” on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Polk Theater in Lakeland.
Presented by Polk State’s Phi Club and Student Activities and Leadership Office, the evening will feature music of Mendelssohn, Paganini, Schumann, Bach, Bartok and more along with the wit and wisdom of Wilde. Polk State professors and Phi Club students will join the artists onstage to read from the Irish writer and poet.
