TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Lawmakers want to change Florida’s election laws in the hopes of improving the state’s reputation among voters and comedians.

It took Florida four days to determine that President Barack Obama won the state during the November election, making the state that needed five weeks to declare a winner in the 2000 election a target for late night television.

Long lines also were a problem during the election, which Obama noted in his State of the Union address.

Republicans and Democrats appear to agree that early voting should be expanded to up to 14 days. That’s the same number of days Florida had before Republicans and Gov. Rick Scott cut back early voting to eight days in 2011.
