The Lions roared about another humanitarian non-profit at the monthly meeting of the Lions Clubs International Lake Wales Chapter on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Beans-N-Brushes. The guest speakers where unsung heroes who detailed their volunteer work with the American Red Cross as national responders.
“It’s our passion,” explained Kathryn Coker, whose family used to own the Lake Wales News. When she and her husband Bob, a former contractor, spent eight weeks helping victims of Hurricane Sandy, it was the 72nd response in one year. “You make a lot of friends,” they said with a smile.
