Shortly after the dismissal of Burney Hayes, a citizen coach at the Lake Wales High School, a threat was made against Principal Donna Dunson. Although both Dunson and attorney Robin Gibson, chair of the Lake Wales Charter Schools, could not comment on the specifics of the case due to the on-going investigation, Gibson said authorities are taking the threat called in to the high school very seriously.

“There will be no Sandy Hook incident in Lake Wales,” he stated. “Law enforcement is dedicated to pursuing the source of the threat. I have personally spoken with both Lake Wales Police Chief Chris Velasquez and Sheriff Grady Judd. They will take this opportunity to make an example out of the person who made the threat.”
