Two cows perished after a rear gate to the trailer they were riding in fell open.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 5, Wednesday, at about 6:15 p.m., a 2006 Dodge Pickup truck, pulling a cow stock trailer driven by Ike Stein of 22215 State Road 60 E. in Lake Wales, was traveling north on U.S. 27, about 100 feet south of Sunshine Drive, when for unknown reasons, the trailer’s rear gate opened.
