TALLAHASSEE (AP) β€” Gov. Rick Scott wants school districts to open their own charter schools to try out innovative approaches to curriculum, instructional strategies and educational focus.

It’s part of an education agenda Scott formally rolled out Thursday.

The governor, though, has previously disclosed most of the proposals including giving teachers debit cards β€” funded at least in part by business donations β€” to purchase classroom supplies that many now are reaching into their own pockets to buy.

Another is a proposal to refrain from implementing new testing requirements unless they support common core standards soon to be adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia.

Scott also previously announced plans for a $2 million teacher training grant program, eliminating charter school enrollment caps and reducing regulations that waste classroom time.
