How can a simple meal of soup and bread help fight hunger? When Lake Wales Care Center cooks up the sixth annual Empty Bowls auction to raise money each fall for hunger relief programs, it’s a recipe for success. Handcrafted bowls designed by local artists and celebrities will be auctioned during the special Lake Wales Area Chamber of Commerce Business-After-Hours Reception on Tuesday, Oct. 9 in the Downtown Market Place at 5:30 p.m.

Local restaurants will serve signature soups as attendees look at the bowls and place their bids in silent and live auctions. The restaurants include the Arcade Coffee and Sandwich Shop; Beans and Brushes; Bob Evans; Chalet Suzanne; Crazy Fish Bar and Grille; Candlelight Academy Cafe; L’incontro; Lake Wales Medical Center; and The View at Lake Ashton.
