Every year, David Smith and his wife, Alice Faye Atmore Smith, headed for Chesapeake Bay, Virginia, to be with David’s niece and her husband, for the couple’s annual fishing trip.

And on Sept. 21, he plans to continue the tradition, but this time, without Faye at his side.
