TALLAHASSEE (AP) — Recreational saltwater fishing is free in Florida on Saturday.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said Thursday that anglers won’t need a license to wet their lines.

The free day is part of the state’s effort to promote Florida’s recreational fishing industry.

Gag grouper is open for harvest in most state and all federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. Bay scallop and spiny lobster seasons also are in full swing. Those who want to stick closer to shore can reel in such species such as spotted sea trout or red drum.

Saturday is Florida’s fourth free fishing day this year. License-free fishing was allowed in lakes, rivers and other freshwater on April 7 and June 9 and in saltwater on June 2.
