Jesse Jackson brings up a point of discussion with his group at Monday's meeting of the community improvement steering committee. The twenty or so participants consolidated suggestions made at the meeting last month of a much larger group, and will now ask the larger group (task force) for input on what programs exist already for community needs, and where the gaps are.
A large number of the city’s residents gathered at Lake Wales High School last month to share ideas on making Lake Wales a more welcoming community and one better serving its youth. Unity in Community spearheaded the gathering, following a seminar that they, police and school representatives attended on violence among African-American males.
The sphere of concern with the Lake Wales group expanded to opportunities for youth as well as quality of life.
