Lake Wales becomes a Purple Heart City

Lake Wales is presented a Purple Heart flag in recognition of it becoming a Purple Heart City. On July 17, 2012, at the regular meeting of the Lake Wales City Commission, two Lake Wales Veterans organizations, VFW Post 2420 and American Legion Post 71, along with the 7th District Commander, presented a Purple Heart flag to Mayor Michael S. Carter after he read the proclamation announcing Lake Wales as a Purple Heart City.
On Aug. 7, the Board of County Commissioners will also read a proclamation to make Polk County a Purple Heart County.
