KEY LARGO (AP) — Officials in the Florida Keys say they’ve gotten an enthusiastic response to two jobs postings for part-time employees to help battle growing crocodile problems on the islands.

The Key West Citizen reports more than 150 people have expressed interest in becoming crocodile response agents. The applicants include one man from Australia who said he would relocate if given the job.

The positions were created by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to help shorten the response time to calls from residents who encounter crocodiles. The agents will be charged with photographing, relaying information and relocating the crocodiles.

Agents will get on-the-job training.

The number of crocodiles has increased dramatically in the Keys, from 300 in 1975 to 1,500 to 2,000 today.
