Howard Kay, a local attorney and moderator of the forum sponsored Monday night by Unity in Community, collects cards with ideas, suggestions and values submitted by the meeting's sixty-five participants. The ideas were discussed, and a decision made to form a task force to help carry out the forum's initiatives - especially in categories helpful to youth.
Last Monday night’s community forum on improving the quality of life in Lake Wales was well-attended, demonstrating the level of interest in this topic. A strong emphasis was placed on providing more opportunities for youth in the areas of recreation, education and jobs. The meeting was held at Lake Wales High School. The forum was the third and largest of a series sponsored by the local organization Unity in Community. Sixty-five citizens from all walks of life in Lake Wales were asked to contribute thoughts on what the community needs and what community and personal values they consider important. The written suggestions were then shared in small groups, then with the entire audience.
