A comprehensive ordinance designed to deal with the city’s blighted properties received the initial blessing of the Lake Wales City Commission on Tuesday night.

The commission, on first reading, voted 5-0 to approve the International Property Maintenance Code and related code enforcement procedures in Ordinance 2012-09. The ordinance will prescribe standards for maintaining residential structures in the city as well as create new, revised and updated standards for commercial properties.
