Lake Country Elementary School third grade teacher Melinda Devlin was honored at the Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 9 as Teacher of the Month for the month of October.
The recognition is sponsored by the Lake Placid Noon Rotary Club. Devlin was presented a certificate of recognition and a $50 cash award.
A teacher for 36 years, Devlin has been teacher for even longer. She started teaching on a chalkboard in her bedroom along with imaginary students which were stuffed animals. “Then and now it is a joy and desire of my heart to be able to help my students grow and succeed in all areas of their young lives,” she said. “I want to show the love I have for my children through the words I speak and in my actions every day.”
“Providing a safe haven for my children, a place where they will feel secure and have peace in their hearts and minds is a desire of my heart,” Devlin added. “I continually pray to have wisdom and discernment to know how to assist and encourage each child with their individual goals and needs in all areas of their life.”
LCE principal Carla Ball said, “Melinda has been teaching for many years and she still has the passion for teaching. We are very fortunate to have her at Lake Country Elementary.”
