The Lake Placid Ballroom Dancers will have a Halloween Spooktacular Dance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Lake Placid Elks Hall. Costumes are optional, and there will be a pumpkin decorating contest with a group of judges choosing winners in costume and pumpkin contests.
It was noted that a real pumpkin must be used for the contest — and not carved so that it may be recycled for eating.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the 6:30 p.m. arrival of Sebring members of LPBD who will caravan to Lake Placid, led by the Stormy “Grim Reaper” Thompson and Angie “Wicked Witch of the North.” They plan to arrive in a shiny, black Cadillac hearse they own and exhibit at area car shows.
A body-bag filled with air has been placed in the rear of this hearse. Onlookers are invited to touch the body bag which then releases a sound imitating flatulence. “It scares you half to death,” a spokesman said.
Pete Ruano will be the musician of the evening, and the Ladies of the Elks will have a snack bar open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for LPBD members and $7 nonmembers. The Elks Lodge is behind Winn-Dixie on County Road 621.
