DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Daytona Beach police say their chief was injured while making an arrest during Bike Week.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Police Chief Mike Chitwood was treated a hospital for a broken right hand and finger, deep cuts to his finger and a gash on his forehead.

According to a police report, Michael Dangelo of Daytona Beach approached Chitwood on the street Saturday and made a threatening remark.

Police say Dangelo then spit on Chitwood as the chief turned to walk away. Dangelo allegedly bit Chitwood’s hand as the chief then tried to arrest him. The two men struggled and fell to the ground.

Dangelo faces two felony counts and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Jail records Sunday did not show whether he had an attorney.
