Doris Smith, 88, of Lake Placid has been sentenced to five years in prison for the October 2011 stabbing death of her husband, Chester Smith, who was then 95 years old. She sat in a wheelchair as she heard her fate.

Mrs. Smith later pleaded guilty to a manslaughter count, which typically carries a maximum sentence of 15 years. Her remorse and credit for time served awaiting trial and sentencing were listed as main factors for the reduced. She will also serve 10 years probation following the prison time.
