TAMPA (AP) — A former Tampa middle school teacher convicted of having sex with a student is officially back on probation.

Circuit Judge Lisa Campbell reinstated Debra Lafave’s probation Thursday after an appellate court reversed a trial judge’s order to end probation.

The justices called the previous trial judge’s decision to release Lafave from probation early an “abuse of judicial power.” She pleaded guilty in 2005 to having sex with a 14-year-old boy and was sentenced to three years’ house arrest followed by seven years of probation.

The justices reinstated her probation. And Campbell made it official on Thursday, ordering Lafave to serve four years and two months, effective Dec. 19. She also included a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and said the former teacher must stay away from schools.
