Mitchell has tough season to top

Angela Mitchell, a former girls’ basketball player at Fort Meade High School and Class of 2011 graduate of Fort Meade High is now raising the bar high at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where she is shining on and off the court, and getting ready to start her junior season.

Angela plays for the Stillman College Women’s Basketball team, as a shooting guard and as a sophomore she was the team captain. Mitchell had an astonishing sophomore year. She led the team in scoring, and also received the MVP Award, Best Offensive Player Award, and The Student Choice Favorite Female Athlete Award.

Mitchell, who joined the 1,000 point club as a Miner before graduating, averaged 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.3 steals a game.

The spotlight was on Mitchell when they played their rivalry team “Miles College,” Mitchell hit a half-court shot at the end of the first half to put the Lady Tigers up at intermission.

“That was major,” Moorer told the Tuscaloosa News. “It gave us momentum.”

Mitchell led her team to a victory and ended the game with 26 points, to go along with five steals, and was named SIAC Women‘s Basketball Player of the Week.

Not only is she outstanding on the court but she’s also a scholar in the classroom. Mitchell ended her sophomore year with a GPA of 3.7.

“I’m excited about starting my junior year,” Mitchell said. She is the daughter of Alvin and Carmen Mitchell of Fort Meade.
