Beryl Wood (Tucker) Little, 100, of Fort Meade, Fla., passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Rohr Home in Bartow, Fla., due to complications of a stroke.

Mrs. Little was born in Pierce, Ky., in a log cabin.

She was born to Evie and Anna Tucker on June 29, 1912.

She was a retired school teacher and Bible scholar. She attended Tennessee College and graduated from Tennessee Tech where she played college basketball and was known on the court as “Tiny Tucker.”

Her teaching career began in a one-room school house in Pierce later teaching senior English at Livingston Academy in Livingston, Tenn.

On Feb. 12, 1942, she began her married life to Clarence C. Little and was blessed with two sons. She and her family moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1956, where she taught at Southwest Elementary.

She moved in 1962 to Fort Meade and taught at Riverside Elementary and Fort Meade Senior High School. She retired from the Polk County School system in 1974.

She and her husband enjoyed many retirement years with family and friends. In later years, she continued her love of learning by becoming a Bible scholar through Liberty University. She was an avid letter writer and kept up with the politics of the day. She remained living independently even after the loss of her husband and up until January of this year. She believed in exercise and healthy living.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Clarence C. Little; son, Glen C. Little of Gainesville, Fla.; and her infant daughter, Anna, of Livingston.

She is survived by her loving family including her son, Kenneth C. (Ruth) Little of Bartow; sister, Lynn Pennington of Johnson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brian and Amy Little, Whitney Little and Sion Bearrentine, all of Bartow; and many nephews and nieces.

She was a member of Oak Baptist Church of Fort Meade.

A small remembrance service was held for her Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade.

McLean Funeral Home of Fort Meade is in charge of arrangements.
