It was a mixture of emotions, both laughter and tears, when the Polk County Commissioners Board sprang their surprise on retiring Clerks of Courts’ Richard M. Weiss.
“The next item on our agenda is regarding room dedication, which I’m happy and proud to read,” said County Attorney Michael Craig, who announced the Clerks Gallery in the Polk County History Center would henceforth be renamed as the Richard M. Weiss Clerks of Court Gallery; the History Center is the former county courthouse, where Weiss had an office prior to the construction of the current courthouse. The request, read Craig, had been made at the behest of Stacy Butterfield, who will take over as Clerk of the Court on Jan. 8, 2013.
