If Port Charlotte High School athletic director James Vernon has his way, the Pirates will be keeping county rival Charlotte as a district opponent.

Vernon confirmed the school filed papers with the FHSAA on Monday to move up to Class 7A for the 2013 and 2014 football seasons with an eye to joining Charlotte’s district.
