Rachel Jacobs Rhodes, 104, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.
She was born Oct. 6, 1908, in Newark, N.J., and came to this area in 1960 from Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
As a young woman, she worked as a sales girl for a Nut Shop, and eventually became a manager. Rachel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion, where she served as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary in Rotonda West, Fla. One of the biggest changes she saw in her lifetime was air travel. While growing up, she remembered walking everywhere — only the wealthy had cars.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, Fla.
Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Englewood.
